It was a great day for a bike race. We started out with some cold and windy weather but the sun did come out on occasion. We walked the course and did some stand up shots for tomorrows webisode. We had a great time seeing all the craziness and the masses of people surrounding Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer. We spoke with Tom Schuller, Steve Hegg and media liason Philippe Maertens for Team Astana.

Great footage and great networking was had today. Marc and I went to breakfast this morning and met Bonnie Ford, ESPN sports writer and Paul Kimmage with London Sunday Times.

We ran all over the place to get footage. We had some friends help out today which was a great help. Alan and Frank were great. Once the race finished we had a front row spot to see the podium presentations with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Footage from 2008 TOC Stimulates Fans

Cycling fans are already buzzing about the 2009 Tour of California, set to kick off in just under two days. However, an insider’s guide to last year’s race is still turning heads.

The Tour of California has become known in the sports world as America’s largest cycling event, challenging top professional cycling teams to compete each year. According to the tour’s Web site, www.amgentourofcalifornia.com, this year’s event – slated for Saturday, Feb. 14-Sunday, Feb. 22 – will take cyclists from Sacramento to Escondido – an expanded 750-mile trek.

Although excitement continues to build each day this year’s event draws nearer, fans who missed last year’s race – and especially those who simply want to relive the rush – are catching behind-the-scenes footage from the comfort of their own computers.

After the long day of training we catch up with Levi Leipheimer and Chris Horner of Team Astana.

We see a softer side of Levi as we talked about the new team, the upcoming Tour of California and the Olympics. As well as riding with the current Tour de France winner Alberto Contador. He seemed content and optomisctic with the team roster and the race schedule. He is more focused on the upcoming Tour of California and looking to ride into his home town Santa Rosa with the yellow jersey. He has already been selected for the 2008 Olympic cycling team and hopes to come have great form after the Tour de France.

What can I say about Chris Horner. He is always smiling and he always has a positive outlook on things. He is focused on having great form for the Tour of California and helping Levi win a second year in a row.

Levi is no stranger to the media. After he takes a moment to gear up he heads out to the parking lot and clicks in.

On the road again

The morning brings a bitter cold and a lite snow. The team is swarmed upon by car loads of media. They are all anxious to get the shot. I find it easier, with me being alone, to pull to the side of the road and get my shot.

As we near the top of the climb the teams take a few minutes to put on thier cold weather gear for the descent. Chris Horner looks around to make sure he has plenty of food and warm drink.
